LYNDEN – The Lyncs had a lot of new faces underneath the lights, and when you couple that with a tough opponent, its hard to capture a victory. Vancouver College came across the border on Friday night and took one from Lynden Christian 28-7.
The Fighting Irish got on the board first with a 31-yard touchdown pass, and was quickly answered early in the second quarter when junior quarterback Eli Maberry connected with senior Trey Bosman on a slant which ended up as an eight yard touchdown play.
The Lyncs then put a long drive together, after Vancouver College missed a field goal, that took 16 plays and traveled 74 yards, but they were denied on fourth down, and the Fighting Irish took over at their own 6-yard line. A few plays later they connected on pass down their sidelines, which ended up as a 91-yard scoring play to put the Canadian team out in front.
The Fighting Irish quickly gathered in an interception on the following drive, and that allowed them to score once more just before halftime, a 20-yard touchdown pass that came with seven seconds left in the half.
Down by two scores in the second half, the Lyncs remained determined, and put together a pair of long drives, but both came to end with fumbles that were recovered by Vancouver College.
The Irish scored their final touchdown of the game on a 24-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
Bosman scored his team’s only touchdown, caught four passes for 50 yards and led defensively with 12.5 tackles, three tackles for loss and a pass deflected.
The Lyncs (0-1) will play North Kitsap (0-1) on the road this Friday night at 7:00.
