LYNDEN – If you’re wondering when the tradition of Lynden basketball will begin to ease off, it’s not going to happen any time soon, or perhaps ever. A big reason why is the early development, and love for the game of basketball, at such an early age.
A group of Lynden 6th graders, named Grit and Grind Basketball, have qualified for the Washington Middle School state tournament in Spokane.
They have won four tournaments so far this season, and have compiled a record of 30-13 playing in upper divisions, against mainly club teams, to challenge themselves.
Their first game will be Friday night at 6:30, and they will quickly turn around and play again on Saturday morning at 8:00.
If both games are won, they will advance to the championship round.
The coaches are Kobe Elsner, Cabe VanderYacht and Clay Whitman. The roster includes Jax DeBoer, Kolson Rector, Kai VanderYacht, Lincoln Struiksma, Cap Costanti, Deimetrius Wilkinson, Kasen DeLange, Mason Anderson, Cody Wilhite and Brycen Pike.
