LYNDEN – The returning 1A state boys basketball champions showed just what they could do Friday night when the Lyncs defeated Sedro-Woolley 84-54.

After LC won the opening tip-off, the Cubs took an early 12-8 lead, but it wouldn’t last long. Lynden Christian, who was down two starters, made all the right moves and scored 11 unanswered points to take a 19-12 lead. The Cubs wouldn’t see the lead again, and the first quarter ended with the Lyncs up 27-16.

The second quarter was just as dominative as the Lyncs continued to outscore and outshoot the Cubs 25-11. The first half ended with a 52-27 Lynden Christian lead and little room for a Sedro-Woolley comeback.

But the mighty Lyncs weren’t done yet.

LC slowed down in the third but still maintained control of the game, holding onto a 69-43 lead as they headed into the fourth quarter.

With that large of a lead, it was time to let some of the Lynden Christian junior varsity players onto the court.

Senior guard Griffin Dykstra led his team in points scoring 25 over the course of the game. Senior Isaac Paxton came off the bench and was a huge contributor scoring 17 points, 15 of which came from behind the arc, and making nearly every shot he took. Seniors Tyler Sipma and Dexter Zylstra scored 12 and 16 points respectively.

Overall, the game was what you would expect out of the Lyncs. Even being down players, they adapted, moved the ball around, and played a small-ball offense that saw them taking, and making, numerous shots from outside the three-point line. The win gives Lynden Christian a 4-0 record on the season and a 2-0 record in conference play.

The Lyncs’ next game is Monday, December 12th at Mount Vernon.
