BELLINGHAM – The last time that Lynden battled Prosser in the state playoffs was the memorable state championship game from 2008 in which the Lions came out on top 35-34 in double overtime. Victory came a little easier for Lynden on Saturday night at Civic Stadium as the Lions upended the Mustangs 54-20 to move on to the state semifinals.
The two powerhouse teams traded touchdowns early on, but it was the Lions that scored six touchdowns in a row in the two middle quarters as they ran away with it.
Senior wide receiver Kaleo Jandoc had a huge night, catching five passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. His 10 receiving touchdowns is the most by any player this season in Whatcom County.
Junior quarterback Kaedan Hermanutz also had perhaps the best game of his varsity career as he completed 9-of-12 passes for 197 yards and four touchdowns, while also leading his team on the ground with 85 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Lynden also got scores from senior Cade Slayton and junior Isaiah Stanley. Junior running back Campbell Nolte found the end zone on two occasions.
Defensively, the secondary was busy for the Lions against the pass-happy Mustangs, as Lynden got interceptions from senior cornerback Kole Antypas and junior safety Collin Anker.
Senior cornerback Ryan Kleindel registered 5.5 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass deflection, and junior nose tackle Luke Winterberg had sick tackles and a sack.
Lynden will play host to North Kitsap on Saturday at Civic Stadium at 5:00.
