YAKIMA – The Lions used their distinct size advantage to outrebound the Bantams 52-25, and they defeated Clarkston 61-43 in the semifinal round of the girls 2A state basketball tournament.
Lynden led 10-2 early on, but the Bantams went on a 9-0 run to close out the opening quarter. The Lions came back to take a 26-24 lead at the half, and went on a 21-3 lead in the second half to pull away.
Sophomore forward Payton Mills shot 6-for-8 from the field and led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Lynden also went away from one of its strong suits, the three-point shot. After only making just one deep ball yesterday, the Lions only shot seven in tonight’s game, but came up empty.
Freshman guard Finley Parcher finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Haylee Koetje added 11 points and five boards.
The Lions will face top-ranked Ellensburg tomorrow at 5:oo for the state championship.
