BLAINE – The Lions scored 10 runs in the first inning, and cruised from there as they defeated the Borderites 17-2 on a sunny Monday afternoon.
Lynden senior Alexis Fredin led the offensive attack, going 4-for-5, with two doubles and she knocked in six runs. Freshman Haley Saur had a superb varsity debut, collecting three runs, two hits, two RBI’s, two walks and a stolen base. Fellow freshman Kamden Crass also impressed with a pair of hits, one of them a double.
Junior Breanna Swendt pitched the complete five-inning game, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out six. She also scored three runs offensively after picking up a hit and a pair of walks.
Blaine junior Karin Wildermuth was able to reach base both times at bat, hitting a double and getting hit by a pitch. She also had an RBI and scored a run.
The Lynden (1-0) softball team will host Sehome today at 4:30, and the Borderites (0-1) will travel to Mount Baker to face the Mountaineers (2-0) on Thursday at 4:30.
