YAKIMA – The Lions were uncharacteristically cold from behind the three-point line, making just 1-of-18, but they were able to ride their terrific team defense to a 50-34 victory over the Rapids in the quarterfinal round of the girls 2A state basketball tournament.
Lynden held a slight 22-19 lead at the half, but it was able to frustrate Columbia River in the second half, which resulted in 10 turnovers, and the Lions were able to pull away.
A strong inside game, led by sophomore Payton Mills, also helped get the job done in the second half. The 6-foot-2 sophomore finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman guard Finley Parcher added 13 points and seven boards, and junior guard Kiki York chipped in with eight points and three assists.
Lynden (25-1) will face Clarkston (25-1) tomorrow at 5:30 in the semifinals.
