LYNDEN – The Lions played nearly perfect in the first half, and went on to beat Archbishop Murphy 49-24 at Rollie DeKoster Field on Friday night.
Lynden scored all seven of it’s touchdowns in the first half, and they were scored by six different players.
Senior quarterback Kaedan Hermanutz scored the first touchdown on a 1-yard run, and sophomore quarterback Brant Heppner led the second drive quickly, which ended on a 59-yard strike to senior Troy Petz.
The next three Lion drives resulted in touchdown runs by senior Lane Heeringa, Heppner and senior Campbell Nolte. Heeringa had a team-high 71 yards rushing on just six carries.
The Wildcats punched in a field goal from 34 yards out to get on the board in the second quarter, but Lynden wasn’t done as Heppner connected with Petz once more, this time on a 40-yard touchdown. Heppner led the team in passing with 131 yards on 4-of-6 passing.
In the waning moments of the first half, senior inside linebacker Chris Elenbaas stepped in front of a pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. Petz made all seven of his extra point attempts.

The Lions (6-0) will go for their 18th straight win on Friday when they travel to Burlington-Edison (2-4) to take on the Tigers at 7:00.
