GRANDVIEW – One week after passing for 274 yards, Trojan senior quarterback Tucker Harrison topped himself by completing 15-of-24 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns as Meridian defeated Grandview 34-15 on Saturday afternoon.
After a slow start, the Trojans exploded for 21 points in the second quarter, including a 98-yard bomb down the left sideline from Harrison to senior wide receiver Daniel Short. Junior Hunter Jones caught the other two touchdown passes from Harrison, and included a touchdown run in the third quarter.
Jones led Meridian with 43 yards rushing, and with his five receptions. He also intercepted two passes in the first half.
Short caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Harrison in the third quarter, and finished with a game-high 187 receiving yards on four catches. His 46.8 yards per reception in the game broke a school record (which was held by Jones from last week’s contest), and is the third best in Whatcom County history.
The Trojan defense, led by senior defensive end Josh Groen, had another big game, especially against the run, allowing just 44 yards on 19 carries.
Meridian (2-1) will be back home on Friday and will host Bellingham (1-2) at 7:00.
