Meridian drops opener to Anacortes

ANACORTES – The Seahawks avenged last year’s loss to the Trojans by beating them three sets to one on Tuesday night.

After dropping the first two sets by a combined eight points, Meridian topped Anacortes 27-25 in the third set, but dropped the fourth and final set 25-20.

Trojan junior Finnley Claeys led her team with 15 kills to go along with her 11 digs and two aces. Junior Jolena Hoefer had a similar stat-line with 12 kills, nine digs and one ace.

Senior Brynn Neal showed great reaction with 17 digs, and junior Malaysia Smith set up her teammates all night with 24 assists. She also posted 10 digs and three kills. Junior Kadance had nine digs and served up a team-high four aces.

Meridian (0-1) will host Sehome (0-1) this Thursday night at 7:00.
