BELLINGHAM – The Trojans defense allowed just 62 yards on 38 plays as Meridian shut out Mission, BC, 49-0 at Meridian High School on Friday night.
Meridian scored evenly throughout the game, putting up 14 points in each of the first three quarters and scoring a final touchdown in the fourth quarter. Senior quarterback started it off with a 5-yard touchdown run over the right side of his offensive line, and senior running back Cole Roberts scored on a 30-yard touchdown soon after.
Roberts had a huge game, totaling 194 yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns.
The Trojans went to the air in the second quarter as Logan connected on a 27-yard touchdown pass with senior Dylan Hickok and a 37-yard touchdown pass with senior Harlon Stuit.
Roberts’ biggest play of the game came in the third quarter when a run to the right was closed off, so he went against the grain, ran around all of his linemen to the left side of the field and outsprinted everyone to end zone from 72 yards out.
The Meridian defense kept it’s clamp down the entire game, and punctuated it when Hickok intercepted a pass, and took it 18 yards for a score. Josh Neeter and Alex Carillo also had interceptions in the contest.
Senior running back Dante Castaneda scored a 26-yard touchdown on a dive play in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans (2-1) will open up conference play on Friday when they travel to Nooksack Valley (3-0) to take on the Pioneers.
