PESHASTIN – In a match up of two 1A state powerhouse programs, it was Meridian that got the best of Colville 27-14 at the Peshastin Dryden Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
While the Indians used a methodical style to drive down the field, it was the Trojans that had a few plays explode at the right time. The first play that went Meridian’s way was a first quarter touchdown run by senior quarterback Dawson Logan. He ran around left end, made a defender miss and broke it to the outside and scored on a 70-yard sprint.
The Trojans got on the board again when Logan found Whatcom County’s leading receiver, junior Kevin Galiano, on a 34-yard touchdown pass. Galiano finished the game with four receptions for 67 yards.
Colville was able to reach the end zone before half time on a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Logan scored twice more on one-yard quarterback sneaks in the second half to seal the game. One of the touchdowns was set up by a 60-yard pass play from Logan to Dylan Hickok. The Trojan defense also had a few huge plays in the second half. Sophomore defensive end Mason Knutson and Logan got back-to-back sacks in the fourth quarter, forcing the Indians to punt. Hickok also deflected a pass on a fourth down play at the Trojan 20-yard line.
Meridian (1-1) will host Mission, BC, on Friday night at 7PM.
