BELLINGHAM – In the 77th minute of action, Meridian sophomore Kevin Galiano scored on a header, assisted by Carlos Padilla-Solis on a corner kick, and that would be the only goal of the game as the Trojans beat Ferndale 1-0 on Tuesday.
“Both teams had guys missing from their lineups,” said Meridian coach Joe Spencer. “Which is normal for the first game of the season. We had quite a few chances, but didn’t finish well.”
Tanner Bouwman and Cameron Webster each played a half in the goal, combining for the shutout.
The Trojans (1-0) will travel to Nooksack Valley today to face the Pioneers at 4:30. Ferndale (0-2) hosts Anacortes tomorrow at 4:00 PM
