BELLINGHAM – It was a 9/11 Stars and Stripes volleyball match when the Trojans hosted Sultan on Tuesday evening. Meridian won in three straight sets, 25-11, 25-21 and 21-9.
“We had a balanced attack, and everyone contributed,” said Meridian coach Shannon Claeys.
Both teams wore USA themed uniforms, and it was an awesome to see two District 1 rivals come together to tribute those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Carli Vandenhaak totaled a team-high 25 digs, and Bailey Gardner set up her hitters tremendously with 26 assists to go along with her two aces. Ella Carpenter led the Trojans with eight kills, and Finnley Claeys had a great all-around game with seven kills, nine digs and three aces.
Meridian (2-0) travels to Nooksack Valley (0-1) tonight to take on the Pioneers.
