YAKIMA – The Trojans needed the win to play on Saturday, and they got it by defeating the Leopards in four sets at the Yakima SunDome.
Meridian took the first set 25-19 when freshman Melanie Short found an opening in the middle of the court.
The Trojans continued to power through the second set and won it 25-18 on a kill from sophomore Eden Bernardy which hugged the left line.
Zillah led 23-15 in the third set, but Meridian made a strong comeback which was led by the defensive play of senior libero Rylan Bernardy, but the Leopards ultimately took the set 25-22.
A kill by junior Gracie Pap ended the season for the Leopards, as Meridian took the fourth set 25-15.
Short led her team with 19 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Eden Bernardy added 14 kills, 15 digs and a team-high seven aces.
Rylan Bernardy was all over the court and grabbed 22 digs, and senior setter Grace Wells ran the offense with 43 assists.
The Trojans will turn around and play Seton Catholic today at 12:45.
