SEATTLE – The Mountaineers entered the fourth quarter down 21-0. They fought hard, scoring 22 points in the final quarter, but eventually lost to the Panthers 28-22 at Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
Senior center-turned-quarterback Davin Beason scored all three of Mount Baker’s touchdowns, all from a yard out on QB sneaks. He finished with 25 yards on the ground while completing 8-of-16 passes for 99 yards.
Baker outgained Seattle Prep in yards from scrimmage, 367-295, but obtaining a victory of the strong 3A school just wasn’t in the cards.
Senior running back Jesse Sande led his team in rushing (121 yards on 23 carries) and receiving (65 yards on four receptions), and junior Marcques George poured in 97 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Defensively, Beason had another big game with 7.5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Junior linebacker Brady West had seven tackles, and a tackle for loss, and junior defensive lineman Drake Pinkey added five tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack.
Senior cornerback Wyatt Pettigrew caught three passes on offense, and added two interceptions on defense. The Mountaineers now have seven pass interceptions on the season.
Mount Baker (1-2) was scheduled to play Hoquiam this Friday, but that game has been canceled.
