DEMING – The Mount Baker softball team started its season with a bang, winning both games of a double header against Friday Harbor on Saturday.


Sophomore Tyler Miles pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game, and the Mounties scored eight runs in the first inning, as they ultimately won 11-0 in five innings. Sophomore Kennedy West went 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI’s and senior Kaylea Sleveland also was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
West pitched six innings, giving up just one run, in the second game as Baker topped the Wolverines 7-4. Sleveland came through in the clutch when she hit a 3-run homerun in the fourth inning to break the game wide open. She finished with four RBI’s (six total on the day).
Juniors Hannah Pelan and Anya Zender each went 1-for-2 with Pelan knocking in two runs and Zender hitting a double.
The Mountaineers (2-0) will travel to Nooksack Valley and face the Pioneers on Tuesday at 4:30.
