DEMING – Mount Baker finished last season with just three wins, and it didn’t even have to leave downtown Deming yet this season to match that total this season as the Mountaineers handled Centennial Secondary 41-14 at Bob Tisdale Field on Friday night.

Although Mount Baker began the evening passing the ball, it was the running game that took center stage as the Mountaineers racked up 456 yards on the ground, with four different players rushing for at least 70 yards each.

Senior running back Brady Bruland had the first big run of the night as he weaved through the Centaur defense for a 35-yard touchdown.

D. Moa

The Moa cousins, Dylan and Kamden, each had short touchdown runs in the second quarter, and that was followed by a 33-yard touchdown run by wingback Shaun Dugger who took the second handoff on an inside reverse play which confused the defense just long enough so the speedy senior could find the end zone.

Mount Baker held a comfortable 28-0 lead at the half, a half of which it totaled 261 yards of offense on 31 plays, while giving up just 60 yards on 24 plays.

The Mountaineer defense, which hasn’t given up a single point in the first half so far this season, was constantly in attack mode. Senior linebacker Dylan Moa led the way with 5.5 tackles, and three passes batted down. Junior Kamden Moa recovered his third fumble of the season, and junior defensive tackle Trenton George had a quarterback sack as well as another tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

Dugger

Dylan Moa scored his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter, and finished with a team-high 155 yards on 18 carries.

Centennial Secondary returned the ensuing kickoff, after Moa’s score, 87 yards for its first touchdown of the game just as the third quarter came to an end.

Dugger had another dazzling touchdown run in the fourth quarter, this time from 29 yards out.

The Centaurs scored again on a dump-pass to an outlet receiver who proceeded to take it 70 yards for a touchdown.

The Mountaineers (3-0) will travel to Sultan (1-2) on Friday to take on the Turks at 7:00.
