SULTAN – Mount Baker continued its dominant season with a 45-0 drubbing over Sultan on Friday night.

All three phases of the game were excellent for the Mountaineers who put up 366 yards of offense, allowed just 42 yards on defense and got nine points from their special teams.

Senior running back Brady Bruland kicked off the scoring on an 11-yard counter run that had the Turk defense bewildered.

Gilstrap

On the following drive, senior defensive end Caden Mosher had quarterback sacks on back-to-back plays and the Mountie defense forced a punt.

Senior quarterback Luke Smith connected on a deep pass down the left sideline with senior wide receiver Darius Gilstrap who hauled it in for a 42-yard touchdown pass.

Two plays from scrimmage later, Mountaineers linebacker Dylan Moa intercepted a pass which gave his team a short field to work with, and the powerful senior would score from nine yards out just two plays later.

Moa then scored again to cap the next Mount Baker drive, and when Smith went deep once again with less than a minute remaining until halftime, he found senior Shaun Dugger on a 46-yard touchdown pass.

The Mountaineers held a commanding 35-0 halftime lead.

Sultan received the second-half kickoff, but fumbled the ball away on its first offensive play of the third quarter. Sophomore defensive end Kell Reardon pounced on the ball, and Mount Baker had another short field.

Nicol-Mills

An eight-yard run by Bruland, followed by a 10-yard touchdown run by Moa, put the Mounties up 42-0 which activated the running clock.

An interception by junior safety Jet Ross set up Mount Baker’s last long drive of the game which ended with a 19-yard field goal by freshman Enoc Smith, who was a perfect 6-for-6 on his extra points earlier in the game.

Mount Baker’s defense was led by sophomore defensive end Noah Nicol-Mills who finished with six tackles, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

The Mountaineers (4-0) will open up conference play at home on Friday when they take on Nooksack Valley (3-1) at 7:00.
