EVERSON – A consistent Pioneer offense and dominant pitching was the perfect combination as the Nooksack Valley softball team defeated the Mountaineers 10-0 on Thursday.
Pioneers (1-2) pitcher Jordyn Relethford had her best outing of the season, as she gave up just one hit over four innings, while striking out eight. She was relieved in the fifth and final inning by Destiny Dunlap who went on to strike out two Mounties (1-2). Both Relethford and Dunlap also crushed homeruns in the contest.
Dunlap also scored three runs and had three runs batted in. Catcher America Oettel had a double and knocked in two runs, and center fielder Jayden Loreen scored a pair of runs for Nooksack Valley.
Mount Baker senior first baseman Ripley Reardon’s line drive single to right field in the third inning was the only hit for the Mountaineers.
The rematch will take place in Deming on Wednesday.
