NOOKSACK – It was the eleventh time that Nooksack Valley faced Granite Falls in football since 1989, and it was the eleventh time that the Pioneers came out on top. The score was 50-6, and Nooksack Valley looked extremely dominant during the win.
The Pioneers could do no wrong offensively as Austin O’Bryan found Evan Neitling on touchdown passes in each of their first two possessions. Junior running back Cole Eldgridge also looked strong, and he scored on touchdown runs of four yards and 22 yards on Nooksack’s following two possessions.
Another quick drive, highlighted by a 35-yard scamper by O’Bryan, found the Pioneers at the one-yard line, where O’Bryan found senior wide receiver Halston Boersema on a quick out for a touchdown.
Eldridge scored his third touchdown of the game when he intercepted a pass on the next possession and took it 25 yards. Sophomore Scout Whittern then scored on a nine-yard touchdown run just before halftime.
Whittern showed his versatility when he booted a 37-yard field goal from the left hash mark in the third quarter. The second half was when many of the Pioneer backups were able to shine. Senior running back Devin Lackey toted the ball seven times for a team-high 83 yards, and freshman James Triplett intercepted a pass.
The Pioneers (2-0) will travel to King’s (0-2) to take on the Knights on Friday night.
