GRANITE FALLS – Do you remember where you were when the Seattle Supersonics won the NBA Championship? If you do, then you have a good memory. Four months after that happened was the last time the Blaine football team began a season 4-0, until last night.

The Borderites played their traditional bully ball and came away with the road victory over Granite Falls 47-22 on Friday night.

Blaine scored the first five touchdowns of the game, three of which came from senior Jaiden Paez, and one of those came on a 26-yard interception return. The county’s leading scorer also found the end zone twice more in the second half, and finished with 180 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Senior running back Colby Shipp also had a memorable night as he scored the first touchdown of the game, finished with his first 100-plus yard performance in two years, and also surpassed the 1,000-yard milestone in his career.

Shipp

Despite turning the ball over twice in the second quarter, the Blaine defense held the Tigers out of the end zone until the third quarter.

Senior quarterback Colin Davis also scored a third quarter touchdown, ran in a pair of 2-point conversions, completed seven passes for 96 yards and ran the ball nine times for 65 yards.

The Borderite defense was strong once again, with eight different players making stops behind the line of scrimmage. Senior cornerback Thomas Cox had a diving interception, to go along with Paez’s pick-six.

Blaine (4-0) will begin conference play on Friday when it hosts Lynden Christian (2-2) at 7:00.
