HOQUIAM – Nooksack Valley looked incredibly dominant in its 63-20 win over Hoquiam on Friday night at Olympic Stadium.
Eight possessions and eight touchdowns in the first half, before giving way to the backups the rest of the game, the Pioneers were able to rip off huge plays all game.
Sophomore running back Colton Lentz carried the ball just eight times to total 156 yards and three touchdowns to lead Nooksack Valley on the ground, and junior quarterback Joey Brown added 84 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground when he called his own signal.
Sophomore Cory Olney also had a huge game receiving, as he caught five passes for 136 yards and two long touchdowns, and junior Jackson Bennett returned a Grizzly punt 63 yards for a touchdown.
This all happened in the first half.
Hoquiam gained 231 of its 311 total yards in the second half, during the running clock.
Nooksack Valley freshman Matthew Blake also scored a touchdown late in the contest on a 16-yard run.
Olney also intercepted his fourth pass of the year, as he is keeping pace with Meridian safety Hunter Jones, with each player getting an interception in each of the first four games this season.
They will be matching each other next week as the Pioneers (4-0) will begin conference play by hosting Meridian (3-1) on Friday at 7:00.
