YAKIMA – Nooksack Valley had everything working in its quarterfinal matchup against the Cardinals as the top-ranked Pioneers defeated Seattle Academy 60-22.
The defending 1A state champions held the Cardinals to just three points in the second half, after leading 36-19 at halftime.
Senior guard Devin Coppinger led the way with 21 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks, and senior forward Tana Hoekema added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Nooksack Valley defense held Seattle Academy to just 18.6% shooting from the floor, and it also turned the Cardinals over 14 times which led to easy baskets.
Sophomore guard Payton Bartl came off the bench to drain a pair of three pointers early on, sophomore forward Grace DeHoog pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and senior forward Lainey Kimball’s all-around athleticism allowed her to score seven points and grab eight rebounds.
The Pioneers (24-1) will face Wapato (23-2) tomorrow at 7:15.
