LYNDEN – The Lynden Christian bats came alive on Thursday afternoon, giving the Lyncs (1-1) a 15-5 six-inning victory over visiting Bellingham (0-2). This was the Lyncs’ first win of the still very young season.
“I was really pleased with how our boys played,” LC Coach Daniel VanderKooi said. “I felt like we had good at bats, even when we made an out. We made productive outs. Cole Langstraat and Simon Anker both had great games at the plate and Ty Van Dyken was lights out behind the dish.”
Langstraat and Anker each had a pair of hits in their three plate appearances, along with driving in three runs apiece.
Van Dyken was not the only one playing great defense, as Dillon Vander Yacht flashed the leather, making an incredible diving grab behind first base late in the game.
“We spent a lot of energy on defense this week, and really got back to the basics,” VanderKooi added.
After opening up the game with two runs in the top of the 1st inning, the Red Raiders made their final push in the top of the 5th, scoring three runs off of Lynden Christian’s Lucas Johnson. They would not get any closer,
however. Nick Posey led the Raiders, gathering two hits on three appearances and driving in two runs. Kyle Payne also added a couple of hits, coming around to score both times.
Lynden Christian turns around and plays again today at home against Blaine (1-1), while Bellingham gets a day off before hosting River Ridge on Saturday at 12:30 at Joe Martin Field.
