MARYSVILLE – Bellingham couldn’t get anything going on Friday night on the road as Lakewood earned a 49-0 victory.
Erratic shotgun snaps all game caused multiple problems for the Red Raider offense, and the defense was unable to get off the field. The Cougars outgained Bellingham in yardage 473-118, and averaged over 10 yards per running play.
The Red Raiders were also without two key players in Jack Fields and Finn O’Malley.
Lakewood was only to get into the end zone one time in the first quarter, but was able to pour it on after that and led 28-0 at half time.
Bellingham senior Andre Triplett had a busy night, as he caught a team-high four passes, punted six times for 201 yards and totaled six solo tackles from his cornerback spot. Senior Jackson Taylor led the Red Raiders in rushing with 27 yards on 12 carries, and 6-foot-3 190-pound senior defensive end Chris Oesterling continued to show his pass rushing abilities with three sacks, giving him a Whatcom County leading five on the young season.
Bellingham (0-2) will try to bounce back when it travels to Sammamish (0-2) on Friday.
