ANACORTES – The defending 2A state champions upped their winning streak to 18 games as Anacortes defeated Squalicum 49-7 on Friday night.
The Storm recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff, but couldn’t get any points out of it as the Seahawks forced a punt. Anacortes then went on the offensive and completed a pass for 45 yards to on its first play from scrimmage.
The Seahawks went on to score the first two touchdowns of the game, one in the first quarter and one in the second.
Squalicum’s lone touchdown came on a 25-yard pass from junior quarterback Cole Burke to junior wide receiver Ansen Asbjornsen in the second quarter.
Asbjornsen finished with eight receptions for 88 yards to lead his team.
The Seahawks scored twice more before the half, and led 28-7 at the midway break.
Anacortes then scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half, and racked up 527 yards of offense on the night.
Senior inside linebacker Malakai Smith led the Squalicum defense with 11 tackles. Junior outside linebacker Laki Fagaautau finished with 8.5 tackles and a tackle for loss, and junior inside linebacker Avery Weener had 9.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Storm (3-2) will host Lynden (4-1) at Civic Stadium on Friday at 7:00.
