ARLINGTON – Lakewood rolled up 436 yards of total offense, and ultimately defeated Sehome 50-21 at Dick Cardinal Stadium on Friday night.
It was big play after big play for the Cougars, who scored 44 points in the first half alone.
Mariner senior wide receiver Luke Evans broke a 76-yard run on a fly sweep in the first quarter, and that set up Sehome’s first touchdown of the game, a 4-yard run by junior quarterback Carson Neff.
Neff also scored two touchdowns in the second half, and finished with 33 yards rushing and 37 yards passing. Evans led Sehome with 91 yards rushing, while senior Jovyn Sangha led in passing with eight completions for 84 yards, and senior Zach Chisolm led in receiving with four catches for 52 yards.
Junior Kai Swanson, who was filling in at inside linebacker for the injured K.J. McDowell, had a great game defensively with seven tackles, a strip-sack and a 34-yard interception return, which set up Neff’s third touchdown of the game.
Senior defensive lineman Gavin Ortega also picked up 8.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
The Mariners (1-6) will host Cedarcrest (1-7) on Friday at 5:00 at Civic Stadium.
