EVERETT – The Mariner offense rolled up 439 yards, and didn’t attempt a punt, as they sped past the Wildcats 42-14 at Terry Ennis Stadium on Friday night.
Sehome dished out a dosage of what I like to call “Funky Juice”, as senior Tommy Funk and sophomore Andre “Juice” Watson each had career games.
Funk rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, and Watson was all over the field with eight receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, had a 10 yard carry, and returned two punts for 17 yards.
Archbishop Murphy got both of it’s touchdowns on long passing plays, the first one on a quick slant that the receiver took 84 yards for a score. The second was a deep ball that was hauled in for a
60-yard touchdown. Both touchdowns came in the first half, but didn’t faze the Mariners who were in control all game.
Freshman quarterback Nolan Wright tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Malachi Swanson in the third quarter. Wright completed 13-of-17 passes for 134 yards and two scores. He also ran for 42 yards on five carries.
Defensively, senior Max Malo led Sehome with eight tackles from his outside linebacker spot. Opposite of Malo, Funk had a pair of quarterback sacks, and sophomore cornerback Coleby Chambers broke up four passes, and also picked off his first pass of the season.
The Mariners (4-3) will take on Squalicum (4-3) this Friday at 7:00 at Civic Stadium.
