SEDRO-WOOLLEY – In a game that was anticipated as most to be really close, the Cubs were relentless in their 35-0 victory over the Mariners at Tom Mullen Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
Sedro-Woolley drove nearly 60 yards on 12 plays on the first possession of the game, but an interception by junior cornerback Coleby Chambers halted the Cubs’ scoring chance.
There wasn’t much halting after that, as Sedro-Woolley ripped off 420 yards of total offense, with 399 of them coming on the ground with its usual powerful style of football.
Multiple fumbles and interceptions didn’t help Sehome’s chances, and as a result, the Cubs ran nearly twice as many plays as the Mariners did.
Sedro held Sehome to negative 23 yards on the ground, with most of those negative yards coming on quarterback sacks. Despite pressure all around him throughout the entire game, sophomore quarterback Nolan Wright passed for 111 yards on nine completions.
Chambers’ interception, and a red zone fumble recovery by junior Andre Watson were the lone highlights for the Sehome defense.
The Mariners (2-1) will try to bounce back on Friday when they travel to Burlington-Edison (1-2) to take on the Tigers at 7:00.
