CENTRALIA – Senior running back Dylan Roberts and sophomore quarterback Jacob Kaepernick each enjoyed big games as Sehome beat Centralia 42-14 at Tiger Stadium on Friday night to pick up its first win of the season.
Roberts scored touchdowns on two of his first three carries of the game, and finished with a game-high 135 yards on 15 carries. Kaepernick completed 18-of-27 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Both teams scored twice early, and the game appeared that it was going to be a shoot-out. However, the Mariners got their defense cinched up, and went on a 28-0 run for the rest of the game.
Kaepernick connected on touchdown passes with senior wide receivers Michael McClin and Brett Meggyesy in the first half. Meggyesy caught his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, and he led all receivers with seven receptions for 91 yards.
Junior running back Dawson Smith closed the scoring with a marathon touchdown run of 18 yards, although it probably felt like 88 yards with all of the jukes he put on against the Tiger defense.
Junior Melloy Nelson connected on all seven of his extra point attempts.
Sehome (1-2) will open up conference play this Friday at Civic Stadium when they take on Blaine (2-1). The game can be heard on The Doug Lange Network.
