BELLINGHAM – The Sehome softball team played on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, with eerily similar results in each game.
The Mariners beat Nooksack Valley 15-0 in four innings on Tuesday, with Savannah Smith only giving up one hit and striking out eight batters. Sehome then went on to defeat Mount Baker 15-0 on Wednesday 15-0 in four innings, and Smith gave up two hits and struck out seven.
Lauren Dodge hit a home run on Tuesday, and Carissa McDowell hit a home run on Wednesday.
After losing the first game of the season, the lady Mariners have won four in a row, and are looking a lot like last years’ dominant team. Smith has won 3 games in a row, and has amassed a 2.49 ERA thus far while striking out 32 batters, and walking just eight.
She is also leading Sehome with eight hits on the season, and a .571 batting average. Smith, Megan Hall and Carissa McDowell each have hit three doubles on the young season, and Lauren Dodge leads the team with nine runs scored.
Carissa McDowell also leads the team with nine RBI’s, and Tori McDowell has 19 plate appearances, and hasn’t struck out once.
The Mariners (4-1) continue on tomorrow at Bellingham (0-4) at 4:30.
