Sehome forward Sophia Pagnotta (10) looks to score.

BELLINGHAM – The Sehome girls soccer team has gotten out to a fast start this season, and it has continued with its sixth win a row by defeating Bellingham 3-0 at Civic Stadium on Monday night.

Maria and Sophia Pagnotta

The Mariners scored their first goal less than eight minutes in when freshman forward Maria Pagnotta scored and was assisted by her sister, senior forward Sophia Pagnotta. The rest of the first half was very even, with the Red Raiders nearly scoring a goal about 20 minutes in.

Not to be outdone by her sister, Sophia Pagnotta scored a goal of her own a little over 10 minutes into the second half.

“It got a little heated out here,” Sophia Pagnotta said. “We’re a really positive team. We all have a good bond as a team.”

Maria Pagnotta scored the final goal of the night with nine minutes remaining in the game, which gave Sehome a little extra breathing room, but the Mariner coach wasn’t ready to relax.

“I never count any team out in this league,” said Sehome coach Andria Fountain. “Especially Bellingham. I just wanted to keep pushing and pushing until the game was over.”

The Mariners (6-1) will travel to Squalicum (7-1) to take on the Storm on Wednesday night, and Bellingham (4-3-1) will host Mount Baker (0-8) on Thursday night.
