BELLINGHAM – The Squalicum soccer team won a crucial Northwest Conference match at Civic Stadium on Tuesday night when they defeated Sehome 3-0.

The Mariners, having only conceded one goal in conference play, were looking to avenge their 2-0 loss against the Storm from earlier in the season. However, the Storm came out fast and applied pressure to Sehome’s back line early in the first half.

Sophomore forward, Mason Lloyd, controlled a long ball from senior Ale Tomasi, and calmly placed it in the side netting for the first goal of the game. Senior striker, Justice Chala, kept things rolling when he converted off a cross from Tomasi with a looping header that just crossed over the line of Sehome’s goal. The Storm went into the half leading 2-0 after several defensive stops by sophomore Caden Seyler and junior Mason Kyles.

In the second half Squalicum never put on the breaks, as they kept Sehome’s back line on their toes for the rest of the game. The Storm eventually found another breakthrough when sophomore midfielder, Ben Carpenter, found senior Kamden Fix who then blasted a left footed shot into the top of the goal.

The Storm (11-1) will host Anacortes (9-1-2) on Thursday at 7:30, while the Mariners (9-2-1) will play Bellingham (10-0-1) at Western Washington University on Thursday at 7:00. Both matchups will have a tremendous impact, as they are the top four teams in the conference.
