MARYSVILLE – Every phase of the game worked for the Storm as they won their first conference game of the season by beating the Chargers 56-14 on Friday night.
Junior Steven Owens started things out with a bang when he returned the opening kickoff 90 yards to the Marysville-Getchell 10-yard line. Sophomore Ben Schlenbaker scored on the next play. Schlenbaker would also score on the next four possessions as he finished with 228 yards rushing on 21 carries to go along with his five first-half touchdowns.
It was pure dominance up front, and Schlenbaker was just too strong and too fast.
Junior quarterback Mason Binning displayed top-notch accuracy all game, completing 12-of-15 passes for 207 yards. He hit a few deep balls to Bryce Pennock, and later connected with Pennock on a 17-yard touchdown pass.
Pennock’s exploits didn’t end there. He intercepted a pass as the first half wound down and returned it 66 yards for a touchdown.
Senior Elliott Aslan scored on a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and he also showed amazing athleticism on a pass he intercepted earlier in the game.
Senior kicker Addison Schrock was a perfect 8-for-8 on his extra point attempts.
Cesar Vasquez, Garrett Jabbora and Billy Scammell each had five solo tackles to go along with numerous assisted tackles. Reserve defensive lineman Jacob Watt also had a lot of big tackles late in the game as he made the most of his brief opportunity of playing time.
The Storm (2-2) will host Meadowdale (3-1) this Friday night at Civic Stadium.
