EDMONDS – It’s hard to say which game plan was more on point. The offense, or the defense? It was just an overall drubbing as the Storm beat Meadowdale 45-7 at Edmonds District Stadium on Friday evening.
Spencer Lloyd did it again. A masterful performance by the Squalicum senior signal caller, as he ran for 210 yards on just 10 carries for four touchdowns. He also completed three passes for 84 yards and a score.
The Storm ran for 438 yards as a team, and averaged 12.5 yards per carry.
The Mavericks couldn’t get anything going on offense, and scored their only touchdown late in the ball game. Squalicum defensive backs Ashton Toctocan and Dedrick Mitchell each intercepted passes on defense, while Branden Powers, Collin McEachran, Jackson Campbell and Zach Tucker all made huge plays on defense.
Junior kicker Mason Lloyd continued to be perfect on his extra points this season, going 6-for-6. He also booted a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter before finishing the game out at quarterback.
Powers ran extremely hard, getting his first big action of the season at running back since he went down with an injury in week two. He ran for 79 yards on 10 carries, and he scored a 7-yard touchdown just before halftime.
One of the hottest teams in Whatcom County right now, Squalicum (4-1) will travel to Ferndale (1-4) to take on the Golden Eagles on Friday night.
