YAKIMA – Sophomore guard Ella Fritts made a layup with six seconds left in the game to bring the Lyncs within one point, but Lynden Christian wasn’t able to foul in time on the following inbound, and Deer Park collected the 43-42 win over the Lyncs in the semifinal round of the 1A girls state basketball tournament.
LC tied the game at 39-39 with 3:32 left when Danya Dykstra stole the ball and found Grace Hintz for a layup, but the Stags followed with their eighth, and final, three-point field goal.
Hintz scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, and she was aided by junior forward Allison Shumate who added 11 points and six boards.
The game featured 10 lead changes and nine ties, and was within two points at the end of each quarter.
The Lyncs had their biggest lead of the game in the second quarter when guard Kayla Yun came off the bench and ignited her team with five quick points.
Lynden Christian will face Wapato at 1:00 tomorrow for a chance to take third place.
