ANACORTES – The first quarter ended with the score tied at 7-7, but three touchdowns in the second quarter by Anacortes spelled doom for Squalicum as the Seahawks toppled the Storm 34-13 on Friday night.
Anacortes scored first after a quick 4-play drive on its first possession, and Squalicum was able to quickly answer back when junior quarter Marcus Nixon faked a handoff, and found sophomore tight end Laki Fagaautau alone in the end zone from eight yards out.
Unfortunately for the Storm, that would be their longest pass play of the evening.
A myriad of turnovers in the second quarter led to three quick touchdowns by the explosive Seahawks, who then led 28-7 at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Anacortes scored its fifth and final touchdown of the game on a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Squalicum got a burst in the fourth quarter as well when junior running back Malaki Smith followed a Colby Lewis block and bolted through the line for a 53-yard touchdown run on fourth down. Smith finished with a team-high 88 yards on 11 carries.
Smith also led the defense with 7.5 tackles from his inside linebacker spot.
The Storm (3-4) will host Sehome (4-3) on Friday at 7:00.
