
YAKIMA – Lynden Christian recovered from a heart-breaking buzzer beater loss less than 24 hours ago and rebounded to defeat Annie Wright 50-36 for third place in the 1A state tournament.
After a short scoring drought from both teams to start the game, freshman guard Tyra Dykstra buried back-to-back three pointers to give the Lyncs their first six points of the game.

The Gators clawed back and were able to get within two points after the end of the first quarter.
Annie Wright took a 13-12 lead with 4:50 left in the second quarter after hitting a three-pointer, but Lynden Christian answered with a 15-0 run that lasted over four minutes.
Highlights from the LC run included a deep ball from junior guard Estela Hernandez which kicked off the scoring, a pair of close range shots from senior forward Allison Shumate, a pair of three-pointers from Dykstra and a jumper from junior guard Ella Fritts.

The Gators stopped the run with a pair of free throws with 35 seconds left in the second quarter, but Fritts hit another jumper to end the half and the Lyncs led 29-15.
The second half began with a terrific display of outside shooting from both squads as Lynden Christian and Annie Wright trades three-pointers back and forth throughout the first minute and a half. The Lyncs continued to find easy buckets down low throughout the rest of the third and they were able to extend their lead to 47-29 by the end of the quarter.
The Gators fought hard in the fourth quarter, but Lynden Christian was able to hold on for its 23rd win of the season.
Shumate finished with a team-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Dykstra nailed 4-of-7 from downtown to end with 12 points, and Fritts added 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
