SEATTLE – Mount Baker was able to hang around for most of the first half, but King’s was able to string together some big plays in the third quarter, and the Knights were ultimately able to come away with a 63-22 win over the Mountaineers at Woolsey Stadium on Friday night.

Bruland

The Mounties first got on the board after allowing a second King’s touchdown in the first quarter, when the ensuing kickoff was returned 97 yards for a touchdown by junior Brady Bruland. It was the second time he returned a kickoff for a touchdown in his career.

The Knights answered back with a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7 late in the first quarter.

Sophomore quarterback Toga Tigilau unloaded a deep pass down the right sideline late in the first quarter which was hauled in by senior Landen Hanstead, who then made a move on the defender, and he was able to score on the play which covered 68 yards. Junior running back Dylan Moa ran in the two-point conversion to lessen the Knight’s lead to 21-15.

King’s would then go on to score the next four touchdowns in a row, sometimes following a fumble recovery, and one time after recovering its own kickoff down the sideline.

Baker would get on the board one last time in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tigilau to Bruland.

Maloley

The Knights had a lot of success on the ground, as they rushed for 386 yards in the contest.

Mount Baker was led defensively by senior defensive end Alex Maloley who finished with 5.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack.

He was aided by senior cornerback Hayden Rosse who had 7.5 tackles and a pass broken up, freshman defensive tackle Kell Reardon who had three tackles, one tackle for loss and two passes batted down at the line of scrimmage, and senior defensive end Vance Lawrence who totaled a pair of stops behind the line.

The Mountaineers (1-3) will begin conference play next week when they host Blaine (1-3) at 7:00 on Friday.
