On this day in Whatcom County football history:

1993: After Stu Gorski stepped down as head coach for Mount Baker, the Mountaineers went through four coaches in four years. On this day in 1993, the fourth of those coaches, Doug Preston, won his first varsity game with the Mounties by defeating Vashon Island 35-6. His presence helped turn around the football team, and Preston is also the person that was instrumental in bringing Coach Ron Lepper into the Baker program. Preston’s record was 22-8 with Mount Baker.
