Wilson

On this day in Whatcom County football history:

1997: Ferndale senior running back Matthias Wilson became this first player in school history to rush for over 300 yards in a game. He totaled 307 in a 33-30 loss to Arlington. He is still the only player in school history to accomplish this feat.

2013: Blaine sophomore wide receiver Josiah Westbrook did something that no other player in Whatcom County has ever done before, or since! He caught five touchdown passes in a game in a 35-34 loss to Lord Tweedsmuir, BC. Westbrook would go on to transfer to Squalicum, and is near the top of both schools’ receiving records.

2014: Mount Baker senior kicker Zane Smith entered the game just before halftime to attempt a long field goal against Oroville. He successfully converted the the longest field goal in Whatcom County history (52 yards), and the Mountaineers went on to win 54-6.

2014: Lynden junior wide receiver Jordan Wittenberg set a school record by catching 13 passes in a 38-21 win over Lakewood. Wittenberg went on to catch a Whatcom County-record 87 passes that season, and his school record of 13 catches in a game still stands today.
