On this day in Whatcom County football history:
2001: Blaine senior running back Zeth Simpson runs for a school-record six touchdowns in a 50-7 win over Lakewood. Simpson went on to rush for 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2001, and his school record stood for 10 years.
2001: Sehome senior quarterback James Monrean set a new school record with 254 passing yards in a 28-14 win against Heritage. He also accomplished this while completing just eight passes! Monrean was wide regarded has having one of the strongest arms in Whatcom County history, and his school record stood for 5 years.
