MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck totaled 359 yards on the ground, averaging over 10 yards per carry, and remained on top of the WesCo 3A North Division by defeating Ferndale 42-14 at Quil Ceda Stadium on Friday night.

The game didn’t begin well for the Golden Eagles as the opening kickoff was fumbled, and a group of Tomahawks landed on the ball in the end zone for a 7-0 lead six seconds into the game. Ferndale came back with a 78-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard touchdown run by sophomore fullback Ryan Pelton.

Marsyville-Pilchuck sophomore fullback Dylan Carson capped the following drive with his first of three touchdowns on the game, and when Pelton then scored on a 24-yard touchdown run, it looked liked it would be a constant battle between the sophomore fullbacks. It wouldn’t.

The Tomahawks stayed strong on the ground throughout the game, and was able to shut out the Golden Eagle attack the rest of the way.

Carson finished with 269 yards on 21 carries, including long scoring bursts of 66 and 80 yards. He’s also the son of Marysville-Pilchuck coach Brandon Carson. Coach Carson is a 1992 graduate of Mount Baker, and was a starter at wide receiver and defensive back for the Mountaineers.

However, as athletic as Coach Carson was in high school, he’ll be the first to tell you that his son’s running back skills came by the genetics of his wife Sarah and her family, the Schleimers.

Dylan’s uncles Joe, Jim, Jake and Jed combined for 14,800 yards rushing and 208 touchdowns on the ground while starring at Mount Baker.

Pelton finished with a team-high 93 yards rushing on 21 carries, and senior Jacob Broselle added 85 yards on 15 carries while also catching a 39 yard pass.

Ferndale (3-4) will close out conference play this Friday night by hosting Stanwood (2-5).
