BELLINGHAM – The deep ball was on point for Meridian as the Trojans defeated Granite Falls 22-13 on Friday night at Meridian High School.

Fyfe

Junior quarterback Jaeger Fyfe tossed three touchdown passes in the first half, and finished the game with 215 yards passing, completing 12-of-24 passes.

Senior running back Joshtyn Elmer was the recipient of the first one on the third play from scrimmage. He lined up as a wide receiver, ran a deep out pattern. He caught the pass in stride and ran past the Tiger defender for a 37-yard touchdown.

Fyfe’s second touchdown pass came on the following possession when he threw a deep ball down the near sideline to where only his receiver, James Hedahl, could jump up and get it. The 6-foot-6 junior snatched the ball out of the air and landed in the end zone.

Elmer

Halfway through the second quarter Fyfe paired up with Elmer once again, this time with the 145-pound senior sprinting out of the backfield and down the right sideline. The linebacker couldn’t keep up with his speed, and Fyfe dotted him 20 yards down the field before scoring from 39 yards out.

The Tigers played much better in the second half after making some adjustments. They scored a touchdown in the third and fourth quarter, but ran out of time.

Elmer finished the game with 97 yards receiving and 96 yards rushing.

The Trojan defense was led by junior Landen Downey who had 9.5 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass broken up. Junior linebacker Kelley Gray also had 8.5 tackles and a tackle for loss.

Meridian (1-0) will travel to Chelan on Friday to take on the Mountain Goats (1-0) at 7:00.
