BELLINGHAM – Meridian got off to a slow start against Burlington-Edison on Friday night. A fumble on the opening drive that the Tigers capitalized on a few plays later. A pick-six on the Trojans’ next play from scrimmage, and it just snowballed after that. Burlington-Edison walked away with a 54-8 win over Meridian.
The Trojans got on the scoreboard halfway through the first quarter when junior defensive tackle Marcus Castenada chased the Tiger punter into the end zone before bringing him down for a safety.
Burlington-Edison would go on to score six touchdowns in a row, taking advantage of short fields and turnovers.
Meridian scored it’s only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter when senior quarterback Tucker Harrison found senior tight end Bryce Johnson streaking down the left side line and hit him on a 37-yard strike.
Harrison finished with 111 yards passing, completing 10-of-25 passes. Johnson had three catches for 54 yards.
Defensively, senior defensive end Josh Groen had two quarterback sacks, and nearly had a third. Harrison led his team in tackles with seven from his strong safety position.
The Trojans (0-1) will try to get back on track this Friday when they travel to Evergreen (Seattle).
