FERNDALE – Each set was tightly contested. Each set was decided by the minimum of two points. And, after losing the first set 25-23, the Meridian volleyball team won the next set 27-25 and proceeded to win the next two sets with that identical score.
It was the first time the Trojans had beaten the Golden Eagles since….. well, I’m still researching that, but it’s been at least 14 years!
Meridian his .246 as a team, and totaled 59 digs with 11 aces in the tightly contested matchup.
Junior Jolena Hoefer led the Trojans with 16 kills and four aces, and junior Finnley Claeys added 15 kils, 19 digs and a pair of aces.
“It was a huge win for our team and I am so proud of them,” Meridian coach Shannon Claeys said in an email. “They fought hard for every point and never gave up!”
Freshman Emry Claeys had seven kills and senior Brynn Neal contributed with four kills and two aces. Junior Malaysia Smith set up her teammates all night with 38 assists.
