BELLINGHAM – Sehome sophomore quarterback Nolan Wright threw six touchdown passes to help lead the Mariners to a 44-6 victory over Blaine at Civic Stadium on Thursday night.

Wright

He became the sixth player in Whatcom County history to accomplish that feat, and the first since former Sehome quarterback Jacob Kaepernick did it in 2019 against West Seattle.

His first touchdown pass of the game came less than a minute into the contest when he hit junior wide receiver Coleby Chambers on a slant, which he turned upfield and raced 49 yards and into the end zone.

Wright then followed that up by a pair of short touchdowns passes to his 6-foot-6 tight end, Braddock Duckworth.

Following a short Borderite punt, Sehome junior wide receiver Andre Watson reeled in a 33-yard touchdown pass just before halftime.

Watson

Watson caught his second touchdown pass of the night in the third quarter when Wright dotted him with the ball after running an out-pattern, and Watson did the rest by making two Borderites miss and scoring from 38 yards out.

Watson finished with five receptions for a career-high 149 yards, and he also had a one-handed interception on defense.

The sixth touchdown pass came in the fourth quarter on a quick swing pass to sophomore Tyson Goodman from six yards out.

The Borderites got on the scoreboard with 17 seconds left in the game on a 2-yard run by Colby Shipp. The junior running back led Blaine in rushing with 81 yards on 12 carries.

The Mariners (2-0) will begin conference play next Friday when they travel to Sedro-Woolley (1-0) to take on the Cubs. The Borderites (0-2) will look to bounce back next Friday when they host Vashon Island (0-1)
